| Yea. Matt went to the career planner the other day and they offered him 7000. He was like.. I wasnt going to anyways but now no way ever would i reenlist with that when we know people that got far over 30000. Insane drop in reenlistment bonuses. Still insanely high for some MOS though. Not fair my poor 0311 husband haha _________________ |

| It's crazy to talk about so much money cause when Kyle reenlisted for the 1st time back in 2003 after invading Iraq ect... we got $5000 and that was HUGE HUGE HUGE back then because before the war you didn't get that to reenlist. Then a year later is when the money started rising for reenlistments. IDK it doesn't really bother me one way or the other with these bonuses. I mean if you want to be in the MC it shouldn't be all based on money cause we all know the money sucks! LOL |

Thank you Lacy for pointing that out. I feel the same way. The first time, we got like $7000 before taxes and we felt like we won the lottery. Especially now that I am a Marine myself, I feel even stronger about these reenlistment bonuses. Don't reenlist for money, reenlist because you wanna be a Marine. I have too many people around me every day where I know they are just in for the money and reputation and not because they truly love what they do. It's nice to get a little reimbursement, but if I don't get it that's fine, too. I get to wear this uniform every day and that's pay off enough...no amount of money will ever come close to the happiness I get from being a Marine. I'm sorry if I offended anyone, but I feel strongly about this, because these days it seems to be all about money. People wanna deploy because of money and they wanna reenlist because of money.....that's the wrong direction for the Marine Corps and it's not a surprise to see a huge change in the way a lot of Marines are these days. It's sad to me that the Corps is not the way it used to be when I first got to know it years back. |

| It is definitely crazy to see the drop or see how much some people get. Justin got a nice bonus and I'm happy about that but he was going to re-enlist no matter what. He wants to be a Marine for Life. I always say they are going to have to kick him out of the Marine Corps b/c he won't leave on his own. We did wait until Oct. instead of re-enlisting in July last year b/c we would get more money. Justin's MOS is/was a hard one to keep guys in. But like I said no matter what he was going to re-enlist....money or no money! _________________ |

| You know what is really crazy....getting a bonus of $90,000. That is insane. And guess what else....Justin was going to Lat Move to an 0211 and that bonus is $90,000. Super crazy!! He wanted to be a drill instructor more then Lat Moving!! If the MOS is a Lat Move MOS and they Lat move do they still get the bonus?? Just wondering. This doesn't effect us b/c Justin won't be re-enlisting for another 3+ years. I was just wondering how that works. I would think you would get tons of Marines just Lat Moving to get the bonuses you know. _________________ |

In section 5 it explains all of that. From the sounds of it they still get a bonus if they qualify. |

| I guess I see these bonuses as a "thank you" for re-enlisting, not a reason to but sometimes people knowing a bonus is going to help them. Kyle was 100% set on re-enlisting but I can be honest in saying that his $65,000 bonus after taxes was icing on the cake. Kyle deserved it and so did everyone else in his unit that re-enlisted with him. I have no problem in saying that. He is proud of what he does, loves it and wouldnt trade it for anything. But we sure as hell were crazy happy over the bonus amount. _________________ |

I was just stating it was a crazy change.. thats all. Some people got tons of money for reenlisting ... and thats all I was saying. Matt isn't reenlisting because he doesn't enjoy his job..... not because he isnt getting enough money. We knew far before this came out that it was a no go even if it was big money. SO i understand exactly that it is about liking your job because I dont understand why someone would reenlist into something they dont like. |
I didn't say he was going to reenlist if it had been more money. I just think it's sad that money plays such a big role these days in reenlisting for many people. That's all. You have to understand that working with shit bags that reenlist because of money makes you kind of harsh when it comes to that. That's when I wish there was no bonus.....that way it is more likely to have people that care about being good Marines. Does that makes sense? |

Although Aaron didn't enlist until 03. I totally agree with you Lacy. If you want to be in the MC, it should be about serving your county, not the money. Although, when Aaron reenlisted, the money was a HUGE help and a push in the right direction. LOL. But Aaron would have reenlisted, anyway. He loves being a Grunt. He loves serving his country and he couldn't picture himself doing anything else. |
